PROFESSIONALS: If you are certified in DBT training and/or therapy, and are interested in expanding your services to an on-line community, please click here to open up a free on-line practice. Then send a message to us, and we'll add you to our on-line providers section. Please be aware that many of TrueRecovery.org's members are anxious to learn and practice DBT skills, but simply do not have providers in their area.
The concept of on-line therapy and counseling is fairly new. I believe this concept can work for many people, though I have not seen any research indicating just how effective it is. Here are links to several psychologists who provide counseling services on-line, many of whom are available right now. While I have not met any of these therapists in person, I have contacted them to verify that they have been trained and certified in Dialectic Behavior Therapy. Many of these also have experience with addictions and impulse issues. While not a professional therapist, I have also listed myself on this list, if you are interested in personal mentoring. If you are in a crisis, please contact a hotline or support line, most of which are free, or call 911 for immediate help. If you decide to try one of these therapsts out, please send us a note and let us know if the experience was worthwhile. If you are interested in traditional, face to face therapy, we have links to several DBT-trained providers in our weblinks section.
NOTE: A word of caution, these therapists charge per minute, so you may wish to set a budget for yourself BEFORE hiring them. You might even want to set a timer to keep you on budget. While the rates can be comparable, traditional therapists charge a flat rate per appointment, and have a clear ending point. On-line therapists charge per minute, and if you are not careful, sessions can run significantly longer. Also, bear in mind, many Insurance providers will not cover the cost of on-line therapy.
