Re: Discussion: Section 2 - Mindfulness "What" Skills
Well, yeah

I've heard some people say that you can do these modules in any order, still Mindfulness is really a core set of skills, running through all the sections.  Personally, I try and do at least one mindfulness exercise every day.  I plan on adding guided mindfulness exercises here, that you can play on-line or download (MP3) format.  We don't have them on this site yet, but I've posted several really good links to other sites in the 'Links' section.

I especially like the 'Guided Mindfulness Exercises' in the Mindfulness Section of the Learning Center.  The 'Diaphragmatic Breathing' Exercise, while not really Mindfulness per se, really helped me out.  I'm doing this twice each day, to improve my breathing.

Another member here made up an exercise that I really enjoyed.  She calls it 'be the Squirrel'.  Here's a quote from her:

'if you live in total present you have nothing but here and now - there is no desire.  To me - the only way I could do this was to 'be the Squirrel' which at first was silly but the more I did it the more relaxed I became - squirls do not pay bills or have cash flow problems.'

She basically goes for a walk, and trys to think like a squirrel.  Aware of the wind as it blows, each branch of a tree, aware of the present moment, nothing in the past and just a moment or two in the future.

Let me know what works for you!

Re: Discussion: Section 2 - Mindfulness "What" Skills
I guess I should have started here, no?  Isn't mindfulness the core skill of DBT?  I was in a group for two sessions.  I think I remember them suggesting that I  try to be mindful for at least a few minutes each day or something.  argh.  I really don't remember.  I am sure trying to be mindful in stressful events is good but isn't it good to practice everyday to kinda work up that mindful muscle prior to facing stressful events?
