Re: Discussion: Section 1 - Core Mindfulness
Ann,
Thanks for supporting Cindy!
Cindy,
What you describe, staying in the wise mind, is a key goal of DBT. It’s something we're all working toward. The next two sections will help you understand how to get there. Mindfulness is part of all the sections here. Basically, Mindfulness teaches you how to relax and focus. There are some very good tools in distress tolerance, and some (I’m writing now) in emotion regulation. At the same time, it’s hard to use these tools if you have worry thoughts running through your head and you’re stressed out. The next two sections will step you through how to practice mindfulness.
Take a look at the ‘Guided Mindfulness Exercises’ page in the Mindfulness section. Try one of the guided exercises, to see if it will work on your computer. If not, you might want to see if you can get some computer speakers (check with your friends or family -- I’ve seen new computer speakers for under $10 in discount stores). They’re very good, and well worth it.
